The English Riviera
The English Riviera, located in South Devon's Torbay area, consists of the towns of Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham. Known for its mild climate, palm trees, and 22 miles of coastline with sandy beaches and rocky coves, this popular tourist destination is recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. It offers family attractions, seafood dining, and a rich maritime history, often compared to the Mediterranean due to its scenery.
With its sunny, cheerful atmosphere and endless things to see and do, The English Riviera is a fantastic destination for classic seaside fun.
Dartmouth Steam Railway & River Boat Co.
Dartmouth Steam Railway steam trains travel seven miles along the spectacular South Devon coast into the Dart Valley, an area of outstanding beauty, on to the beautiful village of Kingswear (opposite the pretty Port of Dartmouth). Here you will find Dartmouth River Boats operating on the stunning River Dart offering scheduled services to the town of Totnes and daily Harbour Cruises from Dartmouth. There are also sea going trips from Torquay and Brixham to/from Dartmouth.
This unique network combines steam railway, river and sea adventures for days out in Devon along with our own bus fleet to complete the services offered. For example, the famous Round Robin is an award-winning full day out; a steam train journey, ferry, river cruise and bus ride.
We are also operators of the last remaining coal fired paddle steamer in the UK, “Kingswear Castle” now operating on her home waters of the River Dart.
Paignton Zoo
Take a walk on the wildside at this animal-tastic attraction just a short drive from our holiday parks. 'Paignton Zoo' is one of the South West’s most exciting visitor attractions. Get up close to some of the animal wonders of the world across specially designed habitats – from the Savannah to the wetlands and the tropical forest. Run wild in the play areas or hop aboard the unique Jungle Express train to get even closer to the action.
The zoo is also a registered charity and part of a worldwide network of zoos which cares for and breeds rare species thanks to guests who help to fund their conservation work.
Teignmouth & Shaldon
Teignmouth is a delightful seaside town that blends traditional coastal charm with beautiful scenery. Families can enjoy the long sandy beach, historic pier, play areas and bustling promenade, while the scenic back beach offers colourful boats, gentle waters and lovely estuary views. With welcoming cafés, delicious seafood and a laid-back holiday atmosphere, Teignmouth is a fantastic place for a fun and memorable day by the sea.
The historic Teignmouth to Shaldon Ferry is England’s oldest passenger ferry. It can be traced back to 1296 but is likely to be much older with origins in the Saxon era. It crosses from Teignmouth Back Beach to Shaldon Beach and runs every 10-15 minutes in peak times. Shaldon is located just across the Teign Estuary from Teignmouth. This traditional fishing village offers plenty of original cafés, shops, bars plus sheltered Shaldon beach with sailing, fishing, canoeing, rowing and rock pooling.
